The Blob that Ate Everyone

“He thinks when he opens his locker door; a monster will jump out at him.” It reminds me that after I watch scary movie I always feel the same thing will happen to me in real life. Once, I watch a ghost movie, there is a boy who is sleeping on the bed but, when he opens his blanket there is a child crawl from his blanket. It is so scary and makes me feel that child might appear in my blanket too. I had sleeping problem on that night I could not fall asleep easily and it takes me a week to forget the scary part of movie.

When I read the book, the reading strategy which I used is to image the situation which Zakie had. Zakie is writing a story and he likes to ask other people how it was. I can easy to understand Zakie’s feeling is because I like to ask other’s opinion before I decide to do something else.

So far, in the story Zakie is writing a story and having fun with his friend at school.

“Go ahead. Take it,” she repeated. “It’s yours. For free.” I can easy to image this sentence because once, I went to a supermarket with my friends. There are many little food shops on the side. We decide to stop and find some food to eat. At that time, we cannot decide the food because the food is new to us. We do not know how it tastes like. We stop in front of a cookie shop and we are wondering does it taste good. Suddenly, the owner of the shop picks a big piece of cookie and give to us. We are shock and they just say take it is for free! It made us feel so nice about her personality and it also make me easy to understand how Zakie feels when he gets an old typewriter for free.

When I read the story the strategies which I use is to image the picture in my mind. When Zakie gets a typewriter and I try to image the looking of it. So far, in the story Zakie gets a old typewriter from the store owner. But, he feels so weird that on the way home it just becomes heavier and heavier.

Please leave, I begged silently. Please don’t catch us here. When I see this sentence it reminds me that in a movie which is called “Jurassic Park” there are so many carnivores dinosaurs and they tried to eat all the people. I remember there are two children who hided in a kitchen and they wish the dinosaurs to leave, but they open the door and get into the kitchen. I feel so nervous when I see this scene. It helps me to think an image easily which make people scared and nervous.

In the story, so far Alex and Zackie went to a store and there came a woman with a flesh light and she wanted to know who was in the store. Alex and Zakie kept in silence because they were afraid they will be caught.

The Enchanted Garden

The book I am reading is called “the Enchanted Garden” which was written by Italo Calvino. The story was happened in a garden, there are two children who found a beautiful garden. They love the environment there, The water there so clear made them want to swim so much, the cake look so delicious but they could not enjoy everything there. They were afraid the owner of the garden might come out and chase them away in any moment. They finally saw the owner of the garden but he looked not happy because of the sickness.

When I read this story I tried to image the garden which is so big and there is also clear water to swim. I never see this kind of garden so it is a bit difficult to image for me.

All the Year of Her Life

"All The Year Of Her Life" which is written by Morley Callaghan. This is about a boy who is named Alfred. He stole some products from a store. He was caught and the owner called his mother to come and talk about the problem. He did not get arrest because his mother was so clam to talk about the problem. Alfred was so proud that he had such strong mother to protect him. But, he went to kitchen and saw his mother’s face with stress face. Her hands were shacking and she looked not as strong as he thought.

In the classroom, we discussed the problem which Alfred had and what will happen if the person who talk to the store is his father. We predicted that it will be a totally different story. Mr. Higgins who is Alfred’s father will be very mad and punish him when he saw Alfred. He would not stay clam as his mother.

When I read the story I try to image the picture in my mind. I was thinking that Mr. Higgins is a huge and strong person. He will hit Alfred so hard and teach him a lesson which will help him not make steal the things from store any more.

In the story, Alex, Adam. and Zakie went to a store and everywhere are soaked. When I read it the image of the socked room appeared in my mind. I remember in my house when it was raining the water always got into the house. Everything on the floor is soaked. I hate when is raining, I always have to bring my bag and books on to the high place so they would not get wet. I have to dry the things which are soaked by water. Sometimes, it took me a half day to clean up just my room.

In the story so far, these three children went to a stored. Zakie did not want to go in because he feel there was something weird there. But, it was too late; he was already in the store which is soaked by water.

Alex and Zakie always try to be around Adam’s house at dinner time because she always invites them to stay and eat dinner before go home.

This reminded me that my friends liked to come to my house and my mother always invites them to stay and eat dinner. I can easy to image the situation that they have. But, I do not like to eat dinner in other people’s house because I feel shy to eat with other people's family members which i am not close it makes me feel uncomfortable.

In the sotry three charecters see the lightning outside and there are two weman one of the women said "during the big storm. The lightling sterted a huge fire." After taht the two women were disappeared.

In the book, “The Blob that Ate Everyone,” there are three characters, Zackie, who is the main character and her two friends, Adam and Alex. Zackie wanted to be a writer in the future and she was writing a scary story named “Adventure of the Blob Monster”. When she showed the story to Alex and Adam their react was always in the same way. Alex always like her story but Adam did not like.

After I see this situation which Zackie had and it reminds me when I was playing basketball. When I play basketball I could not decide to shoot the ball or give to my team member. Some people said my shooting is good but when I was going to shoot the other people say pass the ball because your shooting was not good. It confused me and made ne could not decide to shoot or not.

People should listen to other people’s suggestion but sometimes it makes the situation become worse I think Zackie can listen to her friends but it just a suggestion she did not have to follow.

I am reading a book named “The Blob that Ate Everyone.” In the story, Zackie Beauchamp is the name of the main character. It is his last name and no one ever knows how to pronounce his name.

When I read this sentence it reminds me that in the school many teachers cannot pronounce my Chinese name. My name is Ming-Yuan but many teachers have problem with the Yuan sound. It sometimes makes me feel bad because it sounds silly to me. After a few days I decided to make a nickname, which is the reason I have a nickname name Tom.

When I read the story I think about what is happening in the story. I can image and feel that how did he felt when other people could not pronounce his name.

“Just follow me okay? You’ve got to see them. You’ve got to see the egg creatures. You’ve got to hurry.” This sentence remind me that I also like to tell some one else when I found out what is interesting to me. I remember, I am very curious about different kinds of incents and the way that they prey for their foods. One time, I found out a big red dragonfly is about 10 centimeter wide. It is not easy to see this kind of dragonfly so I called others to come and see. At first, no one believes me that even I try to persuade them to see. When I got there again the dragonfly had gone everything is too late.

When I read the story I try to imagine the picture which Dana felt when she wanted to let her parents know about egg creature. It reminds me and thinks about some similar experiences I had before. It helped me understand more the situation that Dana had.

Dana was almost given up that her father will find her and brings her to home. When she was giving up she heard her father said he will search in the lab because Dana is always curious. Dana was very happy that she had a chance to get out of the freezer she said that “Every time I lost all hope, I somehow got another chance.” P84

I remember I like to play games such as video game or game boy. One time, I saw my friend has a game boy and they play with it a lot. It made me really want to have it too. I went home and told my father that may I have a game boy too? My father just laugh at me and at that moment I felt that he was not serious about what I said. When I was almost gave up the car stop in front of a shop. We went into the store and I realized it was a toy shop. My father bought two game boys for my brother and me. This experience made me think that do not give up easily and things which you expect will come to you.

When I read the story I image what is happening in my mind. When Dana was in the freezer with no help, I imaging the situation that he was in. It helped me to feel how did the character felt in the story.

Girl by Jamaica Kincai

Have ever you feel sick and tired of what parents ask you to do and not do? In this story there is a woman who asks her daughter to do everything that she expected and would like to see. When I read the story I use dictionary to help me to understand the story. For example doukona is kind of pudding. After I know the meaning then it helps me easier to follow the story.

It is nice that parents concern about their child. They want them to be the best so they ask them to do what they think is good for them. I saw NEWS in Taiwan, there is a child who stole money from others. He got caught and the police concern about his family. They realize that their parents are too busy and could not really stay with him so he stayed with his grandma. His grandma gave him money when he wants and just let him do whatever he wants. He was spoiled that is why he could not help himself and have to steal money from other people.

Parents are always wanted to help their children. They can talk to you is better than they do not talk to you.

I Had A Hero

Mike the person who is teaching others how to raise fish. Ilunga who is the head of village wants to learn how to raise fish from Mike. Mike says that he needs a pond, so Ilunga decides to dig a pond which is 150m2. It is bigger than a usual size and he digs it with a shovel which borrows from Mike. Digging and digging for few month no mater Ilunga gets fever he still working until everything done.

I think Ilunga is hard working person who works for month and do not really take a rest. In the story when Mike touches Ilunga’s hand and it was on fire one morning. When I see this sentence the picture of Ilunga appears in my mind. His hands are red with dirt. His body is dirty with fever. I cannot picture who can works so hard and not taking any rest. I remember when I get fever my mother always says that I need to have more rest. One time, I got fever but I was still doing some works to pretend that I was strong. The reason that I was doing that is because I did not want to see doctor. I was sure that I will have to take injection if I go there. After I while, I kept doing my works but suddenly my hands were shaking and later on I could not really my arms. I suddenly realize that I needed to go and see doctor.

This experience told me that fever is very serious problem if that time I did not go and see I think I would have some damages in my drain. I think Ilunga should care more about his body but not just working and working. He might die because of the fever.

Dr, Gray locked the door and let Dana stayed with the egg monsters in a freezer. “Did he really expect that touching an egg creature could harm me?” “Did he really think it would not rot my skin off or something?”

I remember my parents always say do not go and play sport after eat. I asked myself will it hurt my body if I play sport after eat? After a few minute I think that my body is strong enough to play after finish the meal. I ran to play sport and not even think about what my parents just told me. I ran and jumped only for few minutes I got stomach-ache. I felt sick and want to throw up immediately. It took me hours to feel better by sitting and doing nothing. This experience tells me that better listen to what other people said so I will have high oppotunity to avoid something that I do not want to happen.

In the story, Dana thought the egg would not hurt her but she was wrong. She checked her whole body and when she grabbed her left leg. It was soft and mushy! She suddenly knew what was happening; she was slowly turning into one of them, the lamp of scrambled eggs.

Dana and Mr. Gray were in a freezer with the eggs. The door is electricity door Dona could not get out of the freezer because she does not have the controller. She is freezing with no help. “Step away from the door, Dana,” Dr. Gray ordered. “Try to calm down.” “You’ll be okay,” the scientist said. “I take very good care of my specimens.”

When I see the sentence I was kind of scared of Dr. Gray. I could not image that he was going to do such thing to the boy who is innocent. I feel sorry for Dana for staying in the freezer. His arms were so cold with no help and he could not keep himself warm. I think Dana is going to be killed by Dr. Gray but not the egg creature which came from Mars. It is terrible that the man did such thing to the boy and calling him specimen.

So far, from the last chapter the egg was around them with circle shape. Dr. Gray said that they make many kinds of shapes when they were around such as triangle, rectangle, and square. It does not mean they were trapped it can be kind of communicating to each other or shows that what did they see around them. Now, Dr. Gray left Dana in the freezer because he wanted to study Dana who had touched the egg. He was curious that does it cause any deceases or change on Dana. The door is locked and Dana is staying in the freezer with hopeless.

Thinking about Author

My thinking about the author before he was in the prison and after he was not in prison was the same. I do not see any feeling that he regretted what he did. In the story, he talked about what happen to the student and himself. He said that he was a teacher and he fallen in love with one student. At that time he already has a wife and three children. He with the girl who is only fourteen year old was in trouble. He tried to escape to other place but he was arrested by police after they had escape for few days. He was in prison for many years. The student who was fallen in love with him, she started to study the law for helping him to get off the prison. At the end of the story he did not say sorry to the girl or the society which he was living in. This made me feel that he will never feel sorry and want to apologize himself to other people. I do not like this kind of people who did wrong thing and you can feel that they do not really care what they did. He should say to other people that he was sorry. It is hard to trust this person, he did not accept the problem and he was trying to ran away with the girl so I think he should stay in the jail for longer time and do not let him go out so easily.

The Wisdom of Toads

“The Wisdom of Toads” written by Puerto del Sol is a story of a man who is in an Arizona prisoner for having children with a fourteen year old girl. In the story he said he was a teacher and the young girl was his student. He was married to another woman at the time but he ran away with the young girl and the police caught him. He has a bad characteristic and personality which made me feel sick about him.

The book is called “The Wisdom of Toads” because Puerto del Sol writes about how the prisoners lick the toads and eat the fluid they have on their bodies, it is like a drug that can make people feel high. The author has two children who are visiting him in prison and he talks about how seeing a toad in a sandbox in the visiting area which is a natural experience for his children. I think the writer is trying to make himself to be more like who has a positive personality and do things which can show that he cares about his children.

After I read the story, I hoped that this man would never get out of prison. It is kind of a bad example that should not happen between students and teacher. And I am also wondering that why did the girl still helping him to get out of the person. She might have better if the teacher can control himself and not fall in love with the her. Now, she has to try hard and help her husband to get out from the prison, she cannot have normal life that other girl can have.

The Summer the Sun Did Not Blow UP

Do you think it is good to tell a rumor? “The Summer the Sun Did Not Blow UP” the book witch written by Birmati Lakhan. Fiji is an island which in the South Pacific Ocean east of Vanuatu. In the story, all the children are living happily in the village and they play with each other every day. One day, there was a rumor which spread to all the children in the village, someone said that sun would break and all the fire will fall onto the Earth. All the people will be baked. All the children believed in this rumor, they were nervous and worried. They were thinking how to escape from the heat of the sun. They could not eat any food. Finally, the adult found out the reason that they did not eat normally. They told and explain to them about the rumor was not true. After a month the sun still in the sky, everything was the same. Telling a rumor sometimes it makes people feel exciting and interesting. But, it can also hurt people especially people who really believe in it.

The three reading strategies that I used while I was reading the story are thinking the picture in my mind, predict the story is going to be, and I also read slowly and carefully to make sure I understand what I am reading. First, I like to imagine a picture in my mind first every time when I am reading a story. It is very helpful for me to understand and feel more interesting about the story. On paragraph seven they wanted to carry a huge refrigerator to help them to survive from the heat of the sun. I can imagine that how much that they worry about the problem. It makes me feel interesting. Secondly, I predict the story when I am reading the story. I like to guess what will happen in the story but it always different then what I thought. For example, I predicted that all the children will bring a big trouble to the village. On one will live with happiness. But, I was wrong. Older people told all the children about the truth and none of the children think too much about the explosion of sun anymore. The third reading strategy which I used is to read slowly and understand the story. For example, on paragraph 10 their mother told them that if they ate their food they would be given a boat just before the sun broke. For this I have to read carefully that what the mother meant. After I read slowly I know that their mother was trying to make them eat food and not to be worry. It is important for me to read slowly and understand it.

The reading process which works well to me is to read the story slowly and carefully. It is important to do these. If we cannot understand the purpose and theme it will be hard for us to understand and follow the story. The one that I worked well is to predict the story. My prediction is always too far from the topic. Sometimes it is not even connect to the story. Next time I would like to predict more before I start to read the next paragraph. I also would like to read more carefully so I would not miss any part that is important in the story.

Dr. Gray who was the managing lab scientist in the lab. Dada told him that it is an egg that she just hatched and she did not know that is that. Dr. Gray told her to go into lab. He closed, locked, and bolted the door.

For me, Dr. Gray is not such a good person. When people lock the door mostly it is mean that they are going to do something that they do not want to show to others.

I remember I bought a video game and hide it in the room. I did not want my mother to see. She does not like me to play any game especially video game. I knew if she found the game she will take everything from me and I will not have chance to play anymore. I locked the door and play the game in my room so my mother would not see and know that I had a game to play.

I think Dr. Gray was going to do such a bad thing to Dana and Egg that’s the reason that he locked the door. So far, in the lab there were Eggs too. Dana could not believe that. The egg monsters surrounded Dada and Dr. Gray. “They…they’ve trapped us!” Dana stammered.

Teme

The theme of the book is to tell children that do not be too curious it can be good and bad. Being curious make the main character felt so exciting. But, it also made her in trouble. She did not know what to do with strange creature. She could not throw it away because she hatched it, she has responsibility to care the egg.

The lab came into view on the next corner. It was a white shingled building. Very low. Only one story tall. But very long. With a row of small, square windows along the front. It looked like a very long train car.

I remember I like to go to school with my friends. One time, we decided to go to school at night time. The building looked normal only one floor tall but is very long too. But, after sun set it looked so old, the glass is so long that can almost cover the whole building. It made us feel scared. We brought a flesh light and walk in the school. It was silence expect the sound that bats were making on the tree. Fortunately, we did not see anything that we were expect not to see.

So far, in the book Dana was going to the science lab and shows the egg to the scientist. She thought the entire scientist would know what the creature is. On the way the egg creature also tried to escape from the shoes box. I think something bad is going to happen to Dana because she is alone and no one can make sure what will the scientist do to the egg.

iPhone Girl

Customers said there are three pictures of a Cinese girl who works in the factory. The reason there are three pictures are on the phone is becaise they forgot to delide them after they test the phone. People say the girl is fired but Foxconn official saied the woman was not fired.

It is not a unusual problem but normaly there would not be any picture on the new products. Apple Company did not give any common maybe they do not want any bigger probelm.

I think the girl did not do anything wrong. she is not the person who took the picture. There is no reason to fire her. I think the factory should concren about the workers in the factory. Everyone wants a product which is new and not other the one who uesd before.

The Lady or the Tiger?

When i am reading this book i try to picture in my mind what i have jsut read to help me remember what i read. I can always easy to think a image in the sotry, it makes me feel more interesting on reading and understaning.

In the story, there was a man who love the princess. they love each other but the king found out and he gave him two choices. There were two doors one with a tigher, if he opens he will be killed immediately. The other door is a lady, he will have to marry her. No one knew which door is the tiger and which is the lady except the king and princess. She love him but she did not want him to be eaten by tigher also did not want him to marry with the other lady. If you are princess which door will tell the man to go.

I think when the man open the door a tigher will come out. The reason that I think is tigher is because the princess had her own ideas especially abotu love. She might not feel good if she could not get the love she wanted. She might jsut let him die but not let other people to take him.

“Egg Monster from Mars” by R. L. Stine, in the book Dana went to Anne’s house and showed the egg creature to her.

“ Out,” Anna’s mom insisted. She held open the screen door for me. “Out. I mean it. I don’t want to have to wash the whole floor.” Anna’s mother was so angry that Dana brought an egg with sticky liquid. It dropped some goo in the kitchen. It also made Anna could not eat her breakfast anymore because it looked too disgusting.

I think Dana must felt very miserable. She did not want to drop the egg and make the floor dirty. She knew that was not polite to do especially when other people are eating. I remember when I was going my friend’s house, my mother always say do not go and visit during mealtime I might interrupt them.

So far, the egg was hatched. It did not look like chicken, it has no head. No face. Just two tiny black eyes near its top. The yellow blob throbbed and it made sick, wet sucking sound. Dana wanted to show her parents but they were not home only a letter from them. It said “Dad and I took Brandy to her piano lesson. Make yourself some cereal, M.”

Reading Strategies

I was reading a story named " The Telephone" by A. F. Accawi. Sometimes I do not really understand what the story were talking about. When I have this problem i whould like to pay attention to what I am reading. It helps me understand and follow the story.

If the sentence is getting more confusing i would like to slow down and read the sentence carefully until I understand. If I read too fast I will skip many words that might be important for the next chapter. It might make medo not be more interesting to read.

I also like to re-read when I lost concentration. Sometimes the environmentis not quite, it sometimes interrupts me while I am reading. If I get interrupted I can not follow and read the story again . If I do not re-read. It helps me to get the feeling of interesting back to me ifi can read ot again

Egg Monster from Mars

The book that I am reading is “Egg Monster from Mars” by R. L. Stine. In the book there are two main characters Dana and her sister Brandy.

Brandy’s birthday was coming and she wanted an egg hunt for her birthday party. She invited all of her classmates and she prepared the awards for people who can find the eggs. Brandy’s mother hides all the eggs around her house and yard. The game was started and everyone but after they found the eggs they stared to throw to each other. Brandy got angry with her classmates because it was not the party that she wanted.

Brandy's problem had made me feel sorry for her. She tried to stop her classmates but, they did not listen to her. She got blame form her parents and she had to clean her house. if this prolem happen to me. I think I would be very angry that no one respects to me on the day that is important for me. So far Dana found an egg that is green. She is hatching the egg and the egg is the strangest egg that she ever seem. I am very curious about what creature is in the egg. It makes me feel interesting and want to read the story.
